General CE: 30 Credits Due Date (M/D/Y): 9/30/2022

The Board will renew the license of a pharmacist who has completed a minimum of 30 contact hours (3 CEU) of continuing education during the preceding biennial renewal period.

Two (2) of the required 30 contact hours shall be completed in courses from the ACPE topic designator ‘‘Patient Safety.’’

Two (2) of the required 30 contact hours shall be completed in courses from the ACPE topic designator ‘‘Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse.’’

In addition, for licensees with authority to administer injectable medications, biologicals and immunizations in accordance with section 9.2 of the act (63 P. S. § 390-9.2) and § 27.401 (relating to qualifications for authority), at least 2 of the required 30 hours must concern the administration of injectable medications, biologicals and immunizations, including, but not limited to, disease epidemiology, vaccine characteristics, injection technique, emergency response to adverse events and related topics. Except as provided in subsection (h), only continuing education programs offered by ACPE-accredited providers of continuing pharmaceutical education targeted toward pharmacists are acceptable to the Board.

All prescribers or dispensers applying for licensure must complete at least 4 hours of board-approved education consisting of 2 hours in pain management or the identification of addiction and 2 hours in the practices of prescribing or dispensing of opioids.

Pharmacists applicants seeking licensure on or after July 1, 2017 must document, within one year from issuance of the license to practice pharmacy, that they completed this education either as part of the applicant's professional degree educational program or board-approved continuing education program. This 4 hours of board-approved education needs to be completed only once.

To renew a license to practice pharmacy for the next renewal period all pharmacists must complete at least two hour of continuing education in pain management, the identification of addiction or in the practices of prescribing or dispensing of opioids. This continuing education requirements of ABC-MAP will count towards the total number of hours of continuing education required for renewal. This two-hour requirement needs to be completed only once per renewal period. These courses must be board approved.
